Dunkirk
In 1940 British troops were sent into France to strengthen the French border between Germany. The British forces were called the B.E.F (British Expeditionary Force).
Hitler was very clever when it came to conquering warfare. He wouldn't go and send all his troops to death and this is shown in this.
As the Allies had declared war on the axis (Nazis) the Allies were worried that the Germans would demolish the border and take France so Britain sent a group of B.E.F (British Expedition Force) to help the French.
Hitler had other plans. He wasn't going to use Blitzkrieg and drive through the middle. He was going to avoid a very big obstacle, the Maginot line - a defence mechanism that could kill a lot of men. Therefore, Hitler sent his men, tanks and planes to Netherlands it only took six days before Dutch forces gave into the overpowerful Nazis. Then after Netherlands were taken over they went to their neighbour's country Belgium unfortunately the Belgium weapons were not up to the date as the German as most of the guns had come from World War One but the Belgium's lasted much longer than the Dutch a twelve day difference of survival . But by the time of day eight of Belgium's survival the French army and the B.E.F were trying to get to the over side of France as the unprepared French were left with nothing after there encounter with Germany power.

The Allies were on the back foot and were heading for Dunkirk .Back in Britain Winston Churchill had appealed to the British citizens to sail over to Dunkirk to rescue the wounded solders. The only reason the big battle ships couldn't rescue the soldiers because the water was too shallow otherwise the massive battle ships would get stuck on land. But lots of innocent people died trying to rescue the wounded soldiers on the sandy beaches in Dunkirk!
The British soldiers came back home as the blood-fest was left behind thinking people would shout at them because they lost but unexpectedly everyone was cheering them on and they were even more determined.
The families could finally breathe properly when they found out that their sons and dads were coming home.
Relatives were shocked when they found out what the soldiers had gone through.
If you want to find out what happens next make sure to go to D-Day.
