Pilots wore:
Pilots wore an all in one or smart trousers with a smart top, they also had goggles, first aid kit and a parachute too. On their feet were some black shoes that look like boys school shoes these days. They would also wear black leather gloves. Underneath their shoes they would wear black socks. On their heads were either a helmet or a hat it depended if it was cold or not they might even wear both.
Soldiers wore:
Soldiers wore a helmets on their head. They wore a camouflage jacket and camouflage bottoms. On their feet were some boots and on their hands some gloves. They also had Guns.
ARP wardens wore:
They wore helmets with a big W on the front. Also, they carried whistles. Ladies wore a smart outfit. On their upper body they wore a navy blue jacket with a belt around the waist, on their lower body they had a navy blue knee length skirt. Men wore either an all in one or a coat and trousers. Some wardens wore badges.
What the Queen wore:
The Queen wore a dark brown jacket with an even darker belt around the waist. She also wore a light brown skirt and a blouse with a matching hat. She some times wore this in khaki green. Although the colour of her clothes changed she always wore a pair of shiny brown shoes with grey stockings.
What the WVS service wore:
The Women's Voluntary Service wore long dresses with belts around their waists. These dresses came in: Navy blue, khaki green or beige. Often they wore hats that match the colour of the dresses. On the dresses they had WVS stitched clearly on the left shoulder of the dress.
What Captains wore:
Men wore navy blue jackets and trousers with golden buttons and four stripes on the sleeves. Sometimes they wore plaited gold rope and shoulder badges. Ladies wore a pure white jacket and trousers with golden buttons. Sometimes they wore gold brooches.
Children wore:
Boys wore shirts (long or short sleeved) with a jumper, no sleeves (V neck) and shorts or trousers with a belt. They wore black or grey socks (long or high) with smart shoes.
Girls wore a blouse, a dress, pinafore or other smart clothing. On their feet were black smart shoes. Most shoes are the ones people wear for school today.
Gas Masks:
Gas masks were used. Most people carried them. Gas masks were used to keep out all the bad gases and kept the wearers safe from poisonous gases. These were commonly used in gas attacks.
